Tamla Tymus Beverly

For many, there is a moment when you intuitively know that your marriage is over, or the relationship within which you share a child has come to an end. That moment is full of confusion, wondering what to do next, worrying about how you will go from a two-income existence to thriving on your own, and above all, there is fear about how your children will be impacted. Who will have the authority to make decisions on their behalf, where will they live, how will their time be divided among both parents and how will the cost of co-parenting be fairly shared? I know how that feels, I've been there. When that happens, you want an experienced attorney that has the knowledge and ability to remove the weight of the legal burden from your shoulders and guide you through the process. That's what I do every day, for every client. I navigate spouses and parents through the process, establish a goal based on your needs and desires, and work tirelessly to get you to the outcome you deserve. I realize that sometimes the client wants a "no-drama" resolution and needs trusted legal counsel to work things out and negotiate, I can do that.  I also realize that there are times when a more assertive and aggressive approach is needed. In those instances, the client wants a fighter in his or her corner, I can do that too. If a peaceful settlement is reached, we're happy; if a fight is needed, we're ready. That's the #TBExperience.

When I was a little girl, I knew I wanted to be a lawyer.  I never wanted to be anything else. It is not what I do. It is who I am.  Fairness, justice, equality, and an outcome that is "right" is what I strive for every day for every client.  When I decided to launch Tymus Beverly, PLLC, it was because I wanted to provide access to caring, empathetic, knowledgeable legal services from a holistic standpoint. That's our vision and that's our mission.

I have over 25 years of legal experience. I previously owned a thriving law firm in Charlotte, North Carolina focused on family law.  For almost a decade, I practiced in Charlotte and ultimately represented over two thousand clients facing family law issues like divorce, child custody, child support, alimony and equitable distribution. I also represented criminal defendants in state and federal court. During my time in Charlotte I received numerous accolades, such as being recognized by Charlotte Magazine as "Top 30 under 30," being selected by the Charlotte Chamber of Commerce for its Minority Business Leadership Institute, being an on-air guest legal commentator during major trials, and receiving an appointment by the then-Chief District Court Judge of Mecklenburg County as the lead attorney representing the State handling contempt matters in non-Child Support Enforcement cases in Mecklenburg County's child support courtroom.

I left Charlotte after nine years to return to my hometown of Washington, DC, to do something I always dreamed of doing: work for the U.S. Congress.  I initially served as a Congressional Black Caucus Fellow and then served a nine year stint on Capitol Hill as a senior staff attorney for the US House of Representatives' Committee on Homeland Security, where I ultimately led the Subcommittee for Oversight, Investigations and Management.

In 2014, I returned to North Carolina and to my roots as a practicing attorney. As I like to say, "the courtroom was calling my name."  Since then, I've continued to represent clients in the area of family law and have logged over a thousand hours in the courtroom trying family law cases, arguing on behalf of my clients and fighting to the end in divorce, child custody, child support, alimony, domestic violence, and marital property matters.

In addition to representing family law clients, I've also had the awesome opportunity to serve and give back to my law school alma mater, the North Carolina Central University School of Law, where I taught National Security Law, Legal Writing and Legal Research.  I also taught Family Law for several years at the Norman Adrian Wiggins School of Law at Campbell University. It gives me great pride to walk into the courtroom and see one of my law students in action, knowing that I contributed to the future of our profession.

I realize that when a client calls me, they are making a big decision during a difficult time. I honor that and respect that and it is never lost on me that what they are going through is usually the most important issue in their lives at that time. I take the trust and financial commitment that clients have placed in me seriously. From the initial consultation to the delivery of the final order, you can rest assured that I am on your side.
